# Pre-authorized Debit (PAD)

In Canada, the [Pre-authorized Debit (PAD)](https://www.canada.ca/en/financial-consumer-agency/services/banking/preauthorized-debit.html) payment method enables merchants to withdraw money directly from the payer's account. Like other direct debit methods, PAD payments can only be collected after a mandate (PAD agreement) has been made with the payer.
