How is FinDock handling Wero

Banks and payment service providers (PSPs) are sending out communications about Wero. In some cases, they may indicate actions are required from you to ensure Wero is supported.

What is happening?

The European Payments Initiative (EPI) - supported by the European Commission and consisting of large European banks - is launching a new wallet type payment method called Wero. The initial goal is to replace several local payment methods: iDEAL in the Netherlands, Payconic in Belgium and Luxembourg, Giropay in Germany, and Paylib in France.

Wero was launched as a peer-to-peer payment system in several countries. As of January 2026, it is also available to merchants. The replacement of iDEAL specifically is planned for 2026/27 with the following timeline:

  • 29th of January: replace name and icon to co-branded iDEAL | Wero
  • Early 2026: back-end transition is started
  • Late 2026: Wero payments can be made
  • Late 2027: completion of transition

For more information about the iDEAL transition, see:

The transition is gradual to grow brand recognition and prevent disruption of services.

What is FinDock doing?

FinDock is pro-actively following the Wero developments and making adjustments where needed. In this early stage, our changes are minimal as banks and PSPs continue to handle the technical aspects of the transition.

Whenever there is a Wero-related change to FinDock, it will be communicated as part of our release notes.

How is FinDock implementing the iDEAL change?

At this time, FinDock is updating the payment method icons provided in the GET /PaymentMethod response to the co-branded iDeal | Wero icon. The default label for the iDeal payment method will also be updated to iDeal | Wero. Also iDEAL QR is renamed to iDEAL QR | Wero.

Please note:

  • To retain data consistency in Salesforce, FinDock will not change the name of the payment method itself at this time. The name remains Ideal.
  • To keep existing integrations up and running, FinDock will not change the PaymentMethod.Name parameter value at this time. The parameter value remains Ideal.

What do you need to do for iDEaL?

If you have built a custom integration to the Payment API, you need to check whether your integration hardcodes the iDEAL payment method icon or takes it dynamically from the GET /PaymentMethod response.

If dynamic:

  • You do not need to update the icon.
  • You do need to update the payment method label iDEAL | Wero.

If hardcoded:

  • You do need to update the icon.
  • You do need to update the payment method label to iDEAL | Wero.

If you use Giving Pages or PayLinks:

  • You do not need to update the icon.
  • You do need to update the payment method name iDEAL | Wero.

What if I want to use Wero outside of the Netherlands?

For now FinDock uses the existing iDeal (Netherlands) integrations with PSPs to perform Wero payments. FinDock will follow the adoption of Wero and plan actions as needed per PSP based on how the PSP will offer this new payment method. For already integrated PSPs that support iDeal, we will communicate any necessary actions and changes.
